TANKA ~ KEVIN COSTNER

I have hated you
based on your one film “postman”
but you’re not so bad
I checked your IMDB
and found a new tolerance

A tanka is a 31 syllable poem that pre-dates the Haiku.
It is often used to express emotion, or mark an occasion.
This tanka is to mark the day I am going to stop bad mouthing
Kevin Costner soley for desecrating my third favorite book of all time.

  1. I’m happy to see it’s not all hate for Costner.

And I love that feed gadget thing you’ve got in the sidebar. Very nice!

  2. Yes, all that pent up rage can be pointed at a much more deserving actor…oh I don’t know…maybe… Paul Giamatti! Any other suggestions as too who I should direct my rage?

  3. His performance in Mr. Brooks turned around my opinion.

Will Farrell or Jim Carey any time they’re not doing a serious role?

  4. I agree Dale, with Mr. Brooks. Its the very reason that I have decided to “let it go”. I am still not enamored with Mr.C..

Jim Carey is a good choice. I have never “got” his brand of humor. Hes good in “Man in the Moon” and the “truman Show”, but he is not allowed to be himself in those roles.

Will Farrell….. Not a fan, yet there is something oddly likable about the man.

  5. I have spent an inordinate amount of time trying to find a picture of Kevin Costner doing “Tatanka” in honor of this thread. I regret to inform you I, and Google, have failed miserably.

  6. You are not alone Matt. I too spend an inordinate amount of time searching for A Costner Tatanka snap…doh!

  7. I think Kevin Costner is great in all that he does.
In fact, I just published a book called “If…Diana Didn’t Die” that I would love Disney to make into a lovely fairy tale movie with Kevin as the main character John. Of course it’s about Princess Diana and what I would have loved her life to be like if she wasn’t taken so soon. I wrote the character John based on what Kevin Costner seems like to me- he seems like such a nice down to earth guy. Kevin - the part is made for you, go get Disney :)

  8. The book sounds interesting, is it out yet. I must admit, I do loath Costner, but it really all comes down to what he did to the “postman”. That is my third favorite book of all time, and he destroyed it. I do hope Costner makes more “Mr. Brooks” films, cause he plays a great serial killer. The whole fact that we can hear and see the William Hurts inner voice character, even when seeing them through other peoples eyes ruled.

  9. You’ve given me a curiosity about your third favorite book. Really, “of all time?” Wow. And I’ve never heard of it! I’ll have to check it out sometime. It’s an excellent tanka too! What better use of poetry: reconciliations?! Thank you.
