SEVENTH CONTINENT (1989)

DAILY GRIND
LEADS TO BIZARRE END
UNSETTLING

Directed by:
Michael Haneke
Written by: Michael Haneke, Johanna Teicht
Starring: Dieter Berner, Udo Samel,
Leni Tanzer, Birgit Doll
Additional Syllables: Like alot of Heneke films, I found this one fairly dull to start with. Long drawn out sections of ordinary things, but by the end of the film, I was riveted to the screen. One  very strange film awaits the open minded.

  2. Is this film as disturbing as ‘Funny Games?’ That movie makes me shutter.

  3. Hi Blake, welcome to the site.

Good question. I think on some levels it is more disturbing that Funny Games. In Funny Games, the story revolves around a family that is put in a situation that they have really no control. Seventh Continent, again focuses on a family (2 parents and a child), but in this case the family is in complete control. Both films are disturbing.

My prefence in these films would be Funny Games, then 7th Continent, and then the funny games remake. I liked the fourth wall break in the funny games, and I think for that reason alone, its a better film.
