WHAT IS IT? (2005)
SINGLE MOST
UNIQUE FILM I’VE SEEN!
SUCH MADNESS
Directed by: Crispin Glover
Written by: Crispin Glover
Starring: Crispin Glover, Fairuza Balk, Michael Blevis,
Rikky Wittman, John Insinna, Kelly Swiderski, Lisa Fusco,
Steven C. Stewart, Robin Adams, Cheryl Brown
Additional Syllables: This film is an event, not a movie. Crispin Glover travels the globe with his one copy of the film showing it to packed Art Houses. Its not just the movie either. He presents a slide show of the books he has published. Readings have been polished to become performances worthy of their own billing. An hour of crispin bizarre delivery of his bizarre thoughts really put you in the proper state of mind for the film. “What is it?”, good question. The tagline for the film is “Being the adventures of a young man whose principle interests are
snails, salt, a pipe, and how to get home. As tormented by an
hubristic, racist inner psyche.” Yep…Madness! The cast is made up predominatley with people that have Dow Syndrome, and naked monkey women. If you like Surrealism, or just generally the pecular appeals to you, keep you eyes out for the next time Crispin Glover comes to your town. He also stayed for a very interesting Q&A.
Rating: Hahahaha.. How do you give a rating to a film
thats this bizzarre? Well you don’t! I couldn’t look away.
I think I loved it, and hated it at the exact same time.

Have you seen this film? What did you think?

I couldn’t sit through the movie, and my friend and I walked out mid-way. It was absolutely terrible, and I really don’t see Glover’s talent here. His presentation at the beginning was quite boring, too. I thought that this would be an interesting project and instead it was a quasi-pornographic piece of crap. I would honestly love for someone to review this movie beyond just saying that it’s “bizzare”.
Hi Anya,
Glad you stopped by. I too would love to read a proper review for this film. I know that I am not the person to do a thorough critique of what I saw. It was disturbing, and I completely understand why you left. My friend Marina also had some serious problems with the film, but a lot of her problems were answered during the Q&A portion of the film. She still hates it, but maybe not for the original reasons.
I really have mixed feelings on this film. I loved it because it is unlike anything else I have ever seen. I am a sucker for unique experiences (even bad ones), and have a taste for horrible B-movie fare. I at the same time hated it, because of what I was seeing was highly distasteful.
The movie was my least favorite part of the night. The Q&A was interesting in a rambling kind of way, but I did very much enjoy the slide show presentation. I wouldn’t recommend the film to any of my friends, because I don’t think any of them would be able to stomach the film.
Thanks for stopping by
